The 254 SMO® Hex Socket Cap Screw is a high-performance 254 SMO® (UNS S31254, EN 1.4547) super austenitic stainless steel hex socket screw designed for extreme corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties. Its hex head and tightening surface provide greater support area for wrenches, ensuring more reliable system installation.
Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: 254 SMO® excels in highly chlorinated environments such as seawater, bleaching systems, and desulfurization units, outperforming 316L and conventional austenitic stainless steels
Contains 6% molybdenum and nitrogen, effectively enhancing resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
Excellent general corrosion resistance, intergranular corrosion protection, and galvanic corrosion protection
Tensile strength: approximately 650–850 MPa (95–120 ksi), yield strength ≥ 310 MPa, elongation ≥ 35%
High toughness and weldability: the material has excellent ductility, making it easy to weld and cold work
The material’s strength is nearly twice that of conventional austenitic stainless steel, making it suitable for critical structural fasteners
Designated as UNS S31254 or DIN W.Nr. 1.4547, 254SMO is an Cr-Ni-Mo alloyed super austenitic stainless steel with deliberate additions of copper and nitrogen content. With high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, 254SMO is especially suited for high-chloride environments and offers chloride resistance superior to Alloy 904L, SS316L, Alloy 20 and Alloy 825. It can be readily welded to other common austenitic stainless steels. The 254 SMO stainless steel provides outstanding resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, as well as stress-corrosion cracking. It is widely used in seawater handling & desalination equipment, pulp and paper industry, oil refinery plant, chemical processing equipment, and food processing equipment, etc.
• Petroleum production
• Saltwater handling
• Pulp mill bleach systems
• Tall oil distillation columns
• Desalination equipment
• Food and chemical processing equipment
• Flue gas desulphurization scrubbers
• Offshore oil & gas production equipment
